Golen Gol Hydropower Project
Golen Gol Hydropower Project is located on the left bank of Golen Gol river in Chitral District of KPK province of Pakistan.
The intake weir is located about 1 km upstream of Babuka Village. From the intake headrace channel leads to a tunnel. The tunnel will
discharge the flow into the surge chamber and a combination of vertical and horizontal pressure shafts, and then into the surface power
house located on the left bank of Mastuj River, at the confluence of Golen Gol and Mastuj Rivers. The distance from power house to Chitral
is 25 Km through a metaled road.
An international Joint Venture comprising five Consulting Engineers Firms, namely
- Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG, Stuttgart, Germany (Lead Firm)
- Pakistan Engineering Services (PES), Lahore, Pakistan
- Development & Management Consultants (DMC),Lahore, Pakistan
- BAK Consulting Engineers (BAK), Peshwar, Pakistan
- Stucky Ltd., Renens, Switzerland as sub-consultants are providing consultancy services for review of construction design &
drawings, construction supervision and contract administration.
The contract for consultancy services was
awarded by WAPDA to the JV on 14 May, 2011 which covered a four (04) years period upto 13 May, 2015. The project completion date has now been
extended upto August 2017. Most of the civil works includes intake weir, tunnels and pressure shafts is complete, whereas work on Power
House construction is in progress.
DMC are providing services for review of designs & drawings, preparation of updated designs & drawings, construction planning &scheduling,
construction supervision of civil, electrical, mechanical & transmission line works, geology & geotech, contract management, preparation of
technical reports and other project related documents.
The feasibility study of the project was earlier prepared by HEPO, WAPDA, & GTZ Germany during 1997 which was updated in 2005. The detailed
engineering design and tender documents of the project were prepared by a Joint Venture of PES and FICHTNER.
