Sanjwal Akhori Multipurpose Project -- An Appraisal Study
DMC provided expert services in the areas of project planning, agriculture, sociology,
environment, resettlement and economic
analysis to BARQAAB Consultants for undertaking an appraisal of the Sanjwal-Akhori Off-Channel Storage Project.
Mr. Muhammad Munir, Managing Partner, DMC acted as Team Leader and guided the study team. The purpose of the study aimed to
review and firm up the project concept as an off- channel storage based on available information and limited field surveys.
For this purpose the availability of river Indus flows from Tarbela reservoir, the suitability of the Sanjwal and Akhori Dam
sites for construction of proposed 290 ft. high dam, impact of submergence on the population & infrastructure, potential for
hydropower generation and potential for local agriculture development, were studied and evaluated. Socio-environmental
and resettlement impacts of the project were identified & assessed. Preliminary estimates of project costs, including
environmental and resettlement costs, were prepared and preliminary economic analysis of the project was carried out.
The “Project Appraisal Report” was prepared and submitted to WAPDA.
