Dasu Hydropower Project

Dasu Hydropower Project is a run of the river Project. It is located on river Indus 7km upstream of Dasu village in Kohistan District of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The Project Site is 74 km downstream of Diamer Basha Dam and 350 km North of the Capital City Islamabad. The Contract for Consultancy Services for the preparation and implementation of Dasu Hydropower Project was awarded by WAPDA in September, 2011 to the Joint Venture of Nippon Koi Co. Ltd. (NK, Japan, The Lead Firm), Dolsar Engineering Ltd. (Dolsar, Turkey) in association with Development & Management Consultants (DMC Lahore Pvt. Ltd., Pakistan), National Development Consultants (Pvt.) Ltd. (NDC, Pakistan), Pakistan Engineering Services (Pvt.) Ltd. (PES, Pakistan) as Sub Consultants. The Consultancy Services which spread over a period of 10 years & 05 months, are divided into two Assignments. Assignment – A pertains to the preparation of Detail Engineering Design, Bidding Documents, PC-1 and support to WAPDA in Tendering & Contracting for the award of Construction Contract through ICB, Assignment-A has been successfully completed in July-2014 and Assignment-B commenced w.e.f. August-2014, Assignment – B for Construction Supervision and Contract Management comprising two stages (Stage – 1 of 05 years and Stage – 2 of 03 years). The Project is being financed by World Bank.

Assignment-A

Review of Feasibility including;

  1. Preparation of Detailed Engineering Designs
  2. Preparation of Bidding Documents
  3. Conduction of Engineering, Economic, Environmental and Social Studies
  4. Preparation of PC-I; and
  5. Support provision to Client for tendering including bids evaluation for award of construction contracts through ICB

Assignment-B

SuppSupport to the Client for the following

  1. Construction supervision
  2. Contract Management
  3. Preparation of detailed Engineering Design, Drawings and Specifications of all project components including Dam Spillways, Power House, Power Tunnels and intake structures, tailrace tunnels and outlet structures
  4. Preparation of design for residential and non-residential buildings and colonies
  5. Water supply and sewerage
  6. Land acquisition as per project plans
  7. Preparation of detailed design of realigned 64 KM KKH
  8. Preparation of detailed designs 12 km Access Road to right abutment and 2.4 km Access Road to left abutment
  9. Review and approval of construction drawings
  10. Hydraulic model studies
  11. 500 kV takeoff yard switchyard and 500 kV Transmission Line for addition to National Grid
  12. Route alignment and marking of design and construction supervision of 45 km long 132 kV transmission line from Dubair Khwar to Dasu Hydropower Project
  13. Monitoring of environmental and social action plan
 
 
The Feasibility Study of the Dasu project was earlier undertaken and completed in February,2009 by a JV comprising of two foreign firms M/s COLENCO & M/s MWH and two local firms M/s NESPAK (Lead Firm) & ACE. The Consultants commenced their services from 19th September 2011. DMC are providing inputs in several areas including planning & design of project components, environment impact assessment, social and resettlement aspects, infrastructure development including relocation of Karakoram Highway (KKH), electrical engineering, transmission line system, construction planning & scheduling, preparation of cost estimates & tender documents, field surveys, geological & geotechnical investigations, preparation of related drawings & technical reports.
 
DMC is also the “Local Coordinating Firm” of the JV, and is responsible for the administration, management & logistic support as required for the smooth functioning of the Consultants activities both in the Project Office at Lahore and the Site Office at Dasu. At project site GIS application for resettlement activities and main dam component is taken care by DMC staff.
