Feasibility Study for Re-Design of LBOD Stage-1 Badin Area Drainage System Project
The objective of LBOD Stage-1 Project was alleviation of water logging & salinity in 1.276 million acres CCA through
construction of surface and sub-surface drainage facilities. The primary aim of redesign of the project was to provide permanent solution for
proper effluent disposal keeping in view the concerns raised by local communities on the performance of LBOD System during extraordinary
high rainfalls in 1994 & 2003 monsoons whereby low-lying areas of district Badin were severely flooded.
A Joint Venture comprising NESPAK (Lead Firm), ACE and DMC provided consultancy services for the project. The scope
of the Consultants services included provision of effective drainage facilities to low-lying areas of Badin district; improvement of the system
making best uses of existing facilities and natural flow patterns; system improvement based on realistic hydro-meteorological analysis;
preservation of natural eco-system & socio-environmental improvements; comprehensive planning keeping in view tidal variations & sea water
intrusion and evaluation of cost effective plan. DMC provided inputs in the areas of agriculture & soils, forestry, livestock, sociology,
environment, fishery, electro-mechanical and project coordination & management
