Study for Assessment of Surplus Flows in Kohat Toi – KPK

DMC carried out a detailed study for the assessment of surplus flows in river Kohat Toi. The objective of the study was to make a realistic estimate of availability of surplus river flows after meeting the planned & committed irrigation and drinking water requirements in the commanded area of Tanda dam project, for planning of new small storage schemes in upstream areas in Tanda dam catchment to meet the local demands of irrigation water.

The Tanda dam project located in district Kohat is an off-channel storage fed by water flows diverted through a diversion channel and a weir constructed across Kohat Toi. The study involved detailed review and analysis of historic hydrological and climatic data, including collection and analysis of data of Kohat Toi flows, Tanda reservoir inflows & outflows, water uses & water rights, climate, agriculture and estimation of water availability, water demand, surplus flows and assessment of environmental impacts.
