Chashma Right Bank Canal (Lift-cum-Gravity) Project

The CRBC takes off from Chashma barrage on Right Bank of river Indus in district DI Khan. DMC were member of the Consortium led by NDC which provided consultancy services for detailed engineering studies of the project. These included review & upgradation of feasibility study and preparation of detailed engineering designs, tender drawings and tender documents.

The objective of CRBC (L-cum-G) Project is to supply perennial irrigation to 386,140 acres of land presently under Rodkohi and barrani agriculture. The assignment was undertaken during the period June, 2002 to Feb. 2004. DMC provided inputs in the areas of project planning, layout and designs of canals, bridges and other related structures, agriculture, environment, resettlement, sociology, cost estimation as detailed below:
  1. Present & Future Agriculture Study
  2. The study interalia covered evaluation of existing agriculture and developing options for future cropping patterns, cropping intensities, crop yields, agricultural inputs, improved irrigation management using participatory approach and increase in agricultural production.
  3. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Study
  4. The EIA studies included screening, scoping, identification & assessment of key environmental impacts, identification of mitigation & enhancement measures and estimation of environmental cost and preparation of EIA Report.
  5. Baseline Socio-economic Survey
  6. It included planning and undertaking socio-economic field survey, data collection & analysis and preparation of survey report. The socio-economic issues surveyed included population, social amenities such as education, health, domestic water supply, electricity, telephone, post office, bank, roads, transport, drainage, sewerage, mosque, and ethnic groups, occupational structure, annual income, local organizations, role of women in development, agriculture, livestock etc. The report on socio-economic issues was prepared for inclusion in the main Feasibility Report of the project.
